You'll Need The Good Stuff

We recommend Rubber Gloves with working with Chemicals like Dyes or Soda Ash. Please only Tie-Dye under Adult Supervision if you are under 18. Goggles and a smock, are good ideas but not necessary to not damage the clothes you're wearing. If you want to learn more about Dyes and Solutions for Tie-Dyes, Check Out The Link Below!

How To Tie-Dye For Beginners

1 / Choose your first project

Pick a shirt, tote bag, or other natural-fiber item that is easy to handle. A white cotton T-shirt is the best beginner choice because it shows color clearly and is simple to fold.

2 / Set up your space

Cover your table or floor, wear gloves, and keep your dye bottles, rubber bands, and plastic bags nearby. A simple, organized workspace makes the process smoother and less messy.

3 / Pick one easy pattern

Start with a spiral, crumple, or stripe pattern instead of trying multiple complex folds at once. Easy patterns help beginners learn how dye moves through fabric without feeling overwhelmed.

4 / Make your tie-dye

Once your fabric is washed, damp, and folded, apply dye to the sections you want to color. Don’t worry about perfection; the most interesting tie-dye often comes from a little variation and surprise.

5 / Let the color set

Place the dyed item in a sealed bag or wrap it in plastic so it stays damp while the color processes. Leaving it alone overnight is a simple way to help the color develop more fully.

6 / Rinse and wash

Rinse the shirt until the water runs mostly clear, then wash it by itself. This protects your other laundry and helps your finished design last longer.
